Week Two

Friends and Family!

Still no internet in my apartment but I figured out how to upload some photos! Please click on the photo link on the right side of the blog! You will see some recent pics of me in Thailand!

There are many more that I will put on once I get the internet but this will give you a taste and so you don't forget what I look like! :)

Things are going well. I am more settled and the realization that I will be here for 10 months is sitting in. I start teaching in two weeks and I am prepared and ready to go! That is a great feeling! Until then, I will go out and recruit students for the program!

On Saturday I will go on a boat cruise on the river. It will take me to the places in Bangkok that are famous! I am very excited and of course will put pics up when I can!

Love and miss you! Will write more later! :)

First week in Thailand

I feel like I have been here forever! It is the strangest feeling! Everyone here is very welcoming and wonderful to me. They have helped me, encouraged me, prayed for me, and cooked for me! The food is great and so are the friendships! I will post more pictures once I have internet set up in my apartment. It will be about two weeks.

The smells here are very different. On every sidewalk there are different restaurants, just right there on the sidewalk, cooking. That leaves little room for people to walk by! I have yet to eat off the streets as I am afraid of getting sick! So far, so good in that area! Thank the Lord for that! The sounds are also funny! On every street corner there are men directing traffic and they blow whistles like none other! Everywhere there are whistles! I have gotten use to it but it still catches me off guard sometimes when I am crossing the street!

It rains everyday here, which is nice because it cools the weather down! Guess what...I get to wear flip-flops EVERYDAY!! I love it! :) Rain and flip flops sometimes have been a pain but I just watch where I step!

I miss everyone at home! I have not put any pictures up yet but I will! The walls in my apartment are cement so no hanging anything on the walls. This is sad because the walls are very dirty! I tried to clean it off and it is not quite clean! It is ok though! I am getting use to it! NO COCKROACHES yet! When I find one...you will know! I will take a picture before I kill it!

Today I went shopping for kitchen items! This is my favorite thing to shop for! I loved it! Things like that are not much cheaper than in the US but it is ok! It was a riot in the mall though! There I was with 3 Thai people, all about 5'4. They know a few vocabulary words but no complete sentences in English and I only know hello and thank you so far. It was quite a sight! One of them said it was like I was Snow White and they were the dwarfs! :) I had to smile when I was in the store because I am sure it looked really funny! We also had a million people helping us find everything we needed! They tested everything in the store to show me that it worked! Oh man, if only you could have been there! :) Then they would not let me carry anything. My 3 friends carried all my things for me. Rarely ever will the let me carry anything. Even if I try to help them they will not let me! Tomorrow I will get my fridge and then I will be good to go! I am looking forward to some American cooking! We will see what kinds of ingredients I can find!

I will update again soon! Miss you all! Thanks for the encouraging emails! I love them!

Day One in Thailand

The church's backyard.

Walkway above the road. There are too many cars and not any street lights to stop them so there are walk ways above the road! Peds do not have the right away!

The church and school hallway! I have my own classroom and everything...no math, only english! Crazy! :)

Ronald is here too!

This is a view from the plane about a half an hour before landing!

My nephew

I was able to visit my nephew, Samuel, a few weeks ago and he is so precious! Here are a couple pics!
